Strengths for Youth- An International Calling

Last night I had the distinct honor to attend the World Technology Summit as a nominee for Planet Strengths, a technology tool that intends to bring strengths development to youth throughout the world. I was seated with Rwandan President H.E. Paul Kagame who affirmed to me the need for developing the global potential in our youth as a means to save the future.

Overall, the World Technology Summit affirmed my belief that the world is changing rapidly and unless we unleash the potential in youth by encouraging creativity and innovation, we are not doing our jobs as stewards of life on this planet. The central question of the conference was “How do we save the future?” The resounding response as demonstrated by innovators in attendance–people from health, finance, media, IT, law, arts, etc. was that to save it, we must create it.

I have encountered many people who are working toward empowering youth. One of them is Heather O’Sullivan Canney, who is organizing a young entrepreuer’s conference. You can find out more about this exciting event at http://www.HeatherO.com

Another fantastic and inspiring organization is called BluMail, the brainchild of Dr. Sarah McCue. Dr. McCue has 20 years international development experience with government and business in over 100 countries. The core idea of BluMail is to provide an alternative source of information and education to populations in developing countries, and more specifically to children and youth. BluMail is a global email, education, networking, jobs, entrepreneurship and activism portal for millions who will be coming online in developing countries. Established as an alliance of NGO, private sector and United Nations organizations, Blumail seeks to be viewed as an alternative to Hotmail, Yahoo and other free email portals so that they may educate and inspire when users check their email through the BluPortal. The Strengths Movement for Youth will be joining the BluMail Alliance. Their website is www.blumail.org. You can contact them here: BluMail / 1300 N Street, NW / Suite CH 21 / Washington, DC 20005 / Tel: 202 236 8400.

It is becoming more clear every day that the Strengths Movement for Youth is an international movement that has synergies with thousands of other organizations focusing on the future by creating opportunities for youth. Your interest and involvement in this movement is crucial.

Great post Jenifer! And thanks for the mention:)
I truly believe that our youth can not only make huge contributions, but untangle some of our current mess! They have the creativity, imagination, and possibility mindset, they just need us to recognize that, and empower them by offering guidance and support!
All too often we as “grown ups” think we have all of the answers. We need to be listening to theirs!
